Learn The Secrets of Diamond Selection

Filed under: General — admin @ 10:49 am

You ought to be aware that all diamonds will be rated for certification through labs using grading criteria. Four of these criteria are important to understand when making a gem purchase or investment. Known as the ‘Four C’s’ these criteria are: cut, carat, color and clarity.

Color is the product of the makeup of the stone and it doesn’t vary. When a seller is describing the color of a diamond they’re talking about the presence or nonexistence of color in white diamonds. Since a stone without color allows maximum light to pass through, clear examples are desired because of their shine.

Cut refers to the diamond’s reflective quality and most examples are cut with fifty eight facets so that the radiance of each rock is heavily dependent on the cut. The different bends and it’s finish decodes its ability to cast light as well as generate its brilliance and luminosity. Remember that a cut can have an effect on its durability and its radiance and some cutting faults are able of make a diamond prone to splitting. A stone that is cut too thin can also enable light to escape of the back and then the diamond will lose a bit of it’s radiance and appear to not glow. So, as you can see the ‘Cut’ is probably the most important of all of the Four C’s.

During the formation process, interior imperfections, or inclusions show up in many examples consequently the amount and measurement of these inclusions decide what’s called the ‘clarity’ of the diamond. Diamonds that are clear create greater magnificence and consequently are rarer and highly priced. To be named ‘flawless’, a stone should feature no exterior or internal flaws evident upon being viewed by a skilled diamond grader using 10x power magnification.

Carat is a measurement of volume by which diamonds are evaluated and a single carat is equal to 200 milligrams. A carat is divided into a total one hundred segments called points so 150 points actually equate to 1.5 carats.

When going to the store to make your highly critical diamond transaction, do not be shy, ask questions, get the responses required to perform an educated purchase. Shopping for certified diamonds enables you to make an educated choice and having knowledge of the ‘four C’s’ lets you perform comparison browsing and purchase the best example at a fair price. But, before making a purchase, look about and decide which types actually look good to you that way you’re can appreciate your diamond for years to come!
