Late spring is the right time for planting the seeds of many easy summer flowers. The soil is warm for promoting germination while the spring rains promote growth. Zinnias, sunflowers, cosmos, petunias, bachelor buttons, balsam, alyssum, marigolds, vinca, poertuluca, lobelia are some of the annual flowers which bloom in summer.

If you want the summer flowers to bloom really well make sure that they get full sunshine for more than 6 hours in a day. So the afternoon shade would be right. This is when you are preparing the soil. Then turn this mixture over with the soil. Plant the tallest in front and the shortest right in front. As the tall plants lean against the wall, it reduces the chance to shade the smaller flowers.

In case the flower bed is situated in the center of the yard, the pattern to be followed is the taller plants in the center followed by middle height plants. You could even use coordinated colors. Two bright colors like red and blue with some white in between or orange and purple with lots of cream and white. Use various shades of blue and sprinkle a bit of bright yellow here and there.

To stay with some extra seedlings, after you have lost some to the birds and bugs, you need to plant seeds at least three times closer to each other as per the directions say. After covering the seeds as per instructions, add a layer of mulch and then water thoroughly. Do not water your plants as a routine but only when it is dry. Wait till at least 4 leaves have sprouted. The perfect distance which should be kept between the flowers is shorter flowers 6 inches apart and medium around 12 inches, with taller ones about 18 inches.

The best part of summer flowers is that the more you pick them for bouquets the more you can expect them to continue to bloom. What is the aim of the flower? Soon upon completing this job, the plant would cease to bloom. You could easily make the plant bloom the second time when you cut down the flowers by half. Plant the seeds of summer flowers late spring, if you want to be assured of an amazing display all summer long.
